The Artists

Jane Rutter, flutist and Chevalier of Arts and Letters
Acclaimed as “a great artist of the French flute,” Jane Rutter stands out for her ability to combine the sound of the flute with the human voice, drawing particular inspiration from bel canto. An artist rooted in the grand classical tradition and dedicated to true musical versatility, she performs as a soloist around the world in extremely diverse formations and styles: concertos with orchestra, chamber music recitals, or in the form of a highly cabaret-style performance, which she calls “the song of the flute.”
Jane Rutter’s twenty-five albums have consistently topped the sales charts in Australia. She studied flute in Paris under the guidance of Jean-Pierre Rampal and Alain Marion, as a scholar of the French government. She regularly performs as a soloist with numerous renowned orchestras. With her exceptional sense of performance, inherited from the great French flute tradition, Jane Rutter manages to captivate her audience at every performance. She has been nominated for Australian Grammy Awards.
Jane also explores “World Music,” playing on several ethnic and classical flutes. Recognized for her outstanding services to music, she has been appointed an academic at the Australian Institute of Music and directs a series of concerts in Sydney.
