MARGA or the Passion of a lifetime

Marguerite GADEL
It is another passion that the Flamarens Castle proposes to unveil to you, that for painting, to which Marguerite Gadel dedicated her life. Marie-Hélène and Arthur Gadel are keen to take advantage of the amazing setting offered by this castle, which has stood for several centuries, to exhibit artists: musicians, painters…
This time, following the informal art exhibition of Jean Guillaume’s paintings, they will present other works; those from the paintings of their grandmother who passed away in late 2014, to whom they wished to pay tribute. Born in Orléans on June 18, 1910, Marguerite Masson married René Gadel in 1931 and left Loiret for Paris. From this union, Jacques was born, whose talent as a builder is well known.
Drawing was her lifelong endeavor – she did not like it when people called it a “hobby.” She took lessons very early on and learned the essentials of her art at the “La Grande Chaumière” workshop near Montparnasse, where she met the painter Foujita in the 1930s. She found success and exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants.
Although her work can be recognized by criteria that might classify her among so-called “naive” painters, one can only admire her undeniable talent as a colorist. Still lifes, dolls, and flowers were her sources of inspiration.
